Mixed Use ResidentialCharleston, SCThe Middleton Group

Located on the corner of Broad and Church Street in Charleston, the historic Hatman Building built in 1855 is considered to be the oldest hat store in South Carolina. Distinguished by its ageless sophistication, the 6,500 sq.ft. category I historic building has undergone a complete renovation by The Middleton Group that now houses high-end retail suites, executive offices, and a luxurious two-bedroom penthouse.

In the residential penthouse level of the building Garden State Tile supplied product for multiple rooms including the kitchen, library and bar, master bathroom and guest bathrooms. The unique mix of materials helped to highlight the original architecture and history of the building while still lending an upscale and modern twist.

KITCHEN: Upon entering through the dark grey doors of the 3rd floor penthouse eyes are drawn to the open concept kitchen featuring the bright and inviting 3×6 Bianco Carrara Marble backsplash from the Garden State Tile Stone Collection, imported direct from Italy.

LIBRARY/BAR: The grey palette, gold accents and marble surfaces are brought into the library and bar area, where the premium white Bianco Carrara Marble Honed Basketweave from the Garden State Tile Stone Collection is inset into the fireplace. The wet bar backsplash features 4×12 antique mirrored glass that is reminiscent of the bar decor found in 1920’s speakeasies.

MASTER BATHROOM: Luxurious, yet affordable, Sweet White Marble from the Garden State Tile Stone Collection in 3×12 polished brick, herringbone mosaic, and honed hex mosaic sizes are combined for a modern and elegant look.

GUEST BATHROOM: Fun patterns and handmade looks are the focal point of the guest bathroom, where Caress Chalk White 3×12 field tiles from the Garden State Tile Wall Tile Collection cover the shower walls. The collection is perfectly accented by Fancy Stone Carrara / Thassos chevron wall panel insets from the Garden State Tile Stone Collection. For contrast, Black Glossy Penny Rounds from the Garden State Tile Retro Mosaics collection were installed on the shower floor.
