Sitting along a marsh over looking downtown Charleston, a James Island home in one of the Lowcountry’s most desirable locations was in need of a major update.

The home, originally built in the 1970s, is over 3,000 sq.ft. in size with a traditional floor plan. Its large lot is packed with huge live oaks all overlooking the spectacular marsh, harbor and historic downtown – the perfect spot for boating, fishing and enjoying the views.

Looking for a way to upgrade the interior to match the remarkable exterior, the homeowners turned to Harbor Woods Construction and Simons Young & Associates to completely transform the inside of the home. The full renovation included opening up the first floor to receive more views from the water, as well as designing a modern kitchen to complement the space. On the second floor, a staircase in the back of the home was removed to make room for two new bathrooms.

In order to help bring the customer’s design vision to life Steve Drickhamer from Harbor Woods Construction came to Garden State Tile. “I use Garden State Tile because my design consultant Lindsay is extremely helpful and knowledgeable,” says Steve. “The Charleston showroom is also a great tool for introducing clients to the many different product lines available. The installed tile samples and full showers create an easy environment for discussing specific details.”

For the first floor kitchen the StoneOne collection was chosen to accommodate the homeowner’s desire for a large concrete-look porcelain. The floor tile, paired with walnut cabinetry and the Garden State Tile Maritime Collection backsplash, lends a modern coastal aesthetic to the newly opened up space.

The walnut tones flowed into the upstairs master bathroom, where Garden State Tile Overall Collection in Hemp was used on the bathroom floor, shower walls and shower floor. Behind the vanity the Yin + Yang Natural Stone Collection was installed to bring a sense of serenity and balance to the design.

Thanks to Harbor Woods Construction and Simons Young & Associates, and with the help of Garden State Tile, the once dated home was successfully transformed into a modern paradise for the happy homeowners.
